The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the latest tablet in the 8–inch segment. This new tablet was announced by Samsung at the Mobile World Congress this year. The Apple iPad Mini is also an 8-inch tablet (7.9-inch to be exact) which has been one of the most popular and best selling tablets in the tablet market today.
Today we compare the new 8-inch tablet against the most popular 8-inch tablet in a one on one battle of specs and feature comparison. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 goes one on one against the Apple iPad Mini.
Let us check out whether the new Galaxy Note 8 is able to outclass the Apple iPad Mini or whether the iPad Mini still manages to be the better tablet.

DESIGN
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 definitely reminds you of all the other Galaxy smart devices. It has a very similar look and feel and resembles the other Galaxy tablets. The iPad Mini is a member of the Apple family. Needless to say, it is an awesome piece of hardware and software. Let us not forget that this tablet also represents the Next Generation of the Apple family and very well stands up to the name.
DISPLAY
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has an 8-inch display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 189 ppi. The iPad Mini has a 7.9-inch LED-backlit Multi?Touch display with IPS technology. It has a display resolution of 1024 x 768 but at 163 pixels per inch. The iPad Mini also has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.
HARDWARE
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has the Exynos 4 chipset. This tablet is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, Mali 400 GPU and a 2 GB RAM. The iPad Mini has the Apple A5 chipset which has a 1 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR GPU and 512 MB RAM. When it comes to hardware configuration, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 promises a much better performance as it has more than two times the processing power and four times the RAM compared to the Apple iPad Mini.
OPERATING SYSTEM
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 runs on one of the latest versions of Android operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Apple iPad Mini on the other hand runs on the latest version of iOS operating system.
STORAGE
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has in-built storage options of 32 and 64 GB. This tablet will also have a micro SD card which will support micro SD cards up to 64 GB. The Apple iPad Mini has in-built storage options of 16, 32 and 64 GB. This tablet does not support storage expansion because there is no micro SD card support.
CAMERA
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a 5 MP Primary Camera and a 1.3 MP Secondary Camera. The iPad Mini has a 5 MP Autofocus Primary Camera with face detection. This camera is able to capture videos at 1080p HD. It also has a Secondary Camera of 1.2 MP which allows you to capture videos at 720p HD. The Primary Camera on the iPad Mini is an iSight Camera with features like Face detection, Backside illumination, Five-elements lens, Hybrid IR filter. Both these tablets have similar quality primary and secondary cameras.
BATTERY
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a powerful 4600 mAh battery. The iPad Mini has a 4400 mAh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. It gives a battery back of up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi?Fi, watching video, or listening to music. Both these tablets have almost the same battery capacity, but practically there are a lot of other factors that determine the battery performance and backup capacity.
DIMENSIONS
The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are 211 x 136 x 7.95 mm. The dimensions of the iPad Mini are 200 x 134.7 x 7.2 mm. Dimension wise, there is very little difference these two tablets.
WEIGHT
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 weighs about 338 grams whereas the iPad Mini weighs about 308 grams. When it comes to weight, the Galaxy Note 8 is a little heavier than the iPad Mini.
CONCLUSION
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a new tablets and hence packs a very powerful hardware configuration. But in spite of being a new tablet, the Galaxy Note 8 does not have a very good display. What I mean to say is that the Galaxy Note 8 is better than the iPad Mini when it comes to display resolution and pixel density but it could have been much better.
The Galaxy Note 8 and the iPad Mini both have an almost same sized display and are even close when it comes to display clarity. Both these tablets offer good in-built storage options of 32 and 64 GB. But the iPad Mini does not have a micro SD card support. Both these tablets also have similar cameras as well.
