Mike Staniforth's short video of his 2012 summer holiday to the US scoops Best Cinematography prize at international film festival
IFE Services, the leading in-flight entertainment (IFE) company, announced today that one of its Senior Editors has won a prestigious award at the iPhone Film Festival.
Shot on an iPhone 4S, Mike Staniforth's short film captures the many highlights of his two week holiday to the United States last Summer. Together with his girlfriend, Mike spent time in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles and visited some of the US's most famous tourist destinations including the Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, Big Sur and McWay Falls. The 2 minute film which is set to Outro by the band M83 won the Best Cinematography award.
Founded by likeminded filmmakers in 2010, the iPhone Film Festival allows artists who don't possess the resources of major film companies to be recognised for great filmmaking using just their talents, creativity and iPhone.
"I'm immensely proud to have won this prestigious award," said Mike. "I didn't have any plans with the footage I'd taken until I read about the iPhone Film Festival soon after I returned home. What started out as a simple holiday video has turned into an award winning short film and I hope it inspires other aspiring filmmakers."
Mike is a Senior Editor within the Production Department of IFE Services. As well as licensing movies, TV shows, audio and games, the company produces safety films and information videos for airlines' embedded, portable and wireless IFE systems.
